The Greatest Choice You Will Ever Make!

God has given you great power, the power to make choices. The choices you make today have a way of determining your future.

I’ve discovered that the choices we make will attract either positive or negative outcomes in our lives.

Some choices have the potential to derail your life. I know this first-hand. I’m so glad that I avoided making the wrong choice at eighteen years old to marry my high school girlfriend. Marrying her would have set me on the wrong course.

Now, marrying my wife, Carolyn, that was a great decision! She’s always had a heart for God that inspires me and causes me to love her more and more each day. In fact, we are about to celebrate 56 years of marriage.

And obviously, the most important choice you will ever make is to invite Christ into your life and allow Him to be Lord over it (Matthew 6:24 – “No man can serve two masters…”).

In the Old Testament story of Joshua, who was a great military leader, he gathers all the leaders of Israel together and tells them, “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…” (Joshua 24:15).

He went on to say, “…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” In other words, “I’ve made my choice, and from this day forward, I will live for Him.”

He implied, “If everyone else chooses to serve other gods, I won’t follow them; I’m going to serve the Lord.”

This is the greatest choice you will ever make.

Moses had warned Israel before he died about the importance of making the right choices, and he said, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life…” (Deuteronomy 30:19).

You have to choose life, and you have to choose blessing. It’s not just going to come automatically.

When I chose to make Jesus my Lord on February 11, 1969, I did it with every intention of serving Him for the rest of my life. It was for me, From This Day Forward.”

And shortly after that, I discovered the verse that we had just read, and I immediately made the decision to “choose life AND to choose blessing.”

And, as many of you can relate, the fight was on. Satan did everything he possibly could to keep me from sticking with the decision I had made. He comes immediately to steal the Word of God which has been planted in our hearts (Mark 4:15).

Nevertheless, I had made my choice to be unwavering in my faith, and God has honored it!

Some people make the right choices, but when adversity comes, they begin to back down and waver. James made it very clear when he said, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8).

The Passion Translation refers to it as being, “Half-hearted.” I can tell you, half-hearted decisions don’t work in the long-run. And then the Scripture asks, “Can you really expect to receive anything from the Lord when youre in that condition?” The answer to that question is “no, you can’t.”

I like to think of it like this, if a double-minded man can’t expect to receive anything from the Lord, then a single-minded man can expect to receive anything that he needs.

Your choices need to be made with this kind of firmness, FROM THIS DAY FORWARD!

That’s the kind of decision I made in regards to Carolyn on the day of our wedding, “From this day forward, I will love you with all my heart for the rest of my life. From this day forward, there will never be another in my life. From this day forward, I will be a one-woman man.” And I have been unwavering in that decision for 56 years.

I made that same kind of decision about my walk with the Lord 53 years ago when I said, “I choose You to be my Lord, and I will serve You all the days of my life.” And I have also been unwavering in that decision, and as previously mentioned, God has honored that decision too!

Not only that, but according to Deuteronomy 30:19, when I chose to live a blessed life, God has been faithful to bring it to pass in my life and He’ll do the same for you as well.

I’m not saying that things have been easy. Don’t allow adversity to cause you to back down on the choices you have made.

One of the reasons why many people back down is because they think God is behind the adversity – but according to the Word, He’s not! Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).

If what you’re going through isn’t producing “life to the fullest”, then God isn’t behind it – it’s the thief!

James instructs us, “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God…for God…tempteth no man” (James 1:13). The word tempteth can also be translated, tested or tried, and God is not behind either one.

God is for you and not against you – Hes on your side. Those trials and hardships are Satan’s attempts to get you to back down from your decision to serve God.

Stick with your decision to serve Him, and He will begin to pour on the blessings. I’m living proof of this!

You must not only make a choice, but you must also become determined and resolute regarding it. You must be unwavering. Christ demands first place; there’s no room on the throne of your heart for any other god. And the truth is, He won’t accept from us a divided heart.

I can’t make your choices for you, and neither can anyone else.

You have a choice. You can be shaken by everything that’s happening around you, or you can choose to stay in faith and expect to see God open His hand to you and experience unprecedented blessings.

Maybe you’re thinking, “It’s that easy?” Making the choice is that easy, but staying in faith until you see it happening is where perseverance comes in.

But, You can do this!

As I said before, I can’t make the choice for you, but I am here to teach you how and to encourage you to stay committed. You’re not alone in this. We’re in this together. And I want to see you experience the same favor and blessing that I have experienced for over 50 years.
