I discovered a spiritual law nearly fifty years ago and it’s been working in my life ever since. It’s an amazing law recorded in the Bible that few in the Body of Christ have understood. Today, I’m going to share it with you.
That Law is the LAW OF INCREASE BY ASSOCIATION.
I first discovered the principle of this law in the Book of Proverbs. Known for its great insight into wise living, Proverbs 13:20 instructs, “He that walks with wise men shall be wise…” Or you could say, “Will increase in wisdom.” Another translation says, “You’ll grow wiser.”
I have found such truth in that passage of scripture. God has used some divine associations in my life over the years to completely transform and bless me.
Learning to apply and appropriate this law will completely revolutionize YOUR life. Who you walk with has a profound impact on your life!
The word walks in Proverbs 13:20 isn’t really referencing the act of taking steps to move forward, but it’s actually referring to pursuing a course of life.
It means that when you connect with someone and begin to allow their way of life to influence your way of life, you will begin to see the same results as they do. That’s one of the reasons I financially partner with certain ministers. I want to experience the same results in my life as I see in theirs!
When the apostle Paul said, “So I beg you to follow my example and do as I do” (1 Corinthians 4:16 NLT), he was encouraging people to pursue his course of life.
To follow his course of life, you had to not only be familiar with his teachings but also adhere to them. Another way of saying “adhere to them” would be “to become devoted to them.”
That’s what I did with Kenneth Copeland fifty years ago. I not only listened to his messages, I became devoted to them. I stuck by them, held fast to them, and patterned my life after them just as he did.
Not only that, but fifty years have come and gone and I’m still “walking with” the things that I learned from not only Kenneth Copeland, but also Kenneth Hagin, Oral Roberts, and T.L. Osborn. And you know what, I started to see God move in my life just like He was in their lives.
Why? Because God is no respecter of persons. And what was on them, came upon me. I became a “partaker of their grace” (Philippians 1:7).
Who you associate with has everything to do with how your life turns out!
This is true good or bad. If you continue reading Proverbs 13:20 it warns, “…but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” The Message Paraphrase puts it this way, “Hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.”
Once again, who you “run with” is vitally important to how your life turns out.
The people I “walk with” are winners, not losers. They are faithful to God and His Word, and not quitters. They hold fast to the Word of Faith and are not chasing after “winds of doctrines.”
The spirit of increase is on their lives and they aren’t always on the verge of failing or living defeated. And that same spirit of increase is on my life!
I can’t stress enough the importance of choosing the right people to walk with, to associate with, and to follow.
Now, let me make this point right now before we go any further. You don’t have to be close friends, nor is it necessary that you’ve even met someone, in order to pursue their course of life.
You can do this by reading their books or by listening to their messages and then applying them to your life. Simply become devoted to what they teach and allow their way of thinking to influence your way of thinking.
I can truly say that the Word that Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Oral Roberts, and T.L. Osborn preached has changed my life fifty years ago. I began to pursue their course of life that was through their teachings and I can say without reservation that the same spirit on them has come on me.
The anointing of increase that is on Kenneth Copeland is on me. The spirit of faith that was on Kenneth Hagin is on me. The anointing for world evangelism that was on T.L. Osborn is on me. The anointing that was on Oral Roberts for healing and miracles is on me.
That’s the Law of Increase by Association!
Fifty years ago, before I started this adventure in faith, I was broke, in debt, and my marriage was falling apart. I was a quitter. I had no self-discipline. I felt like, and believed, I was a loser.
When I finally surrendered to God’s calling, I sought out men and women who were not only serving God but also getting results. I was hungry to learn everything I could from them. I studied how they applied God’s Word in their lives and the same way God moved in their lives, He started moving in my life! Even today, I’m still am devoted to their teachings.
Look at what God has done in my life over the past fifty years! If God did it for me, He will do it for you!

Paul said to his partners living in Philippi, “All of you are my partners. Together we share God’s favor…” (Philippians 1:7 GW). When you partner with me, the same favor on my life is activated in your life!
